The Joy of Helping Others Win (Journey 2 Mastery™ series)

You know what I love the most about what I do with 5Y2M? It’s the feeling I get knowing I can, and do help others become their best selves, and win in life.

It doesn’t have to be anything relating to money, fame or success. It could be something as simple as helping someone live a healthier lifestyle.

I had such an experience recently.

I have a friend of mine who reached out to me saying she needed my help. She had a bad habit of eating sweets, and at times overeating, and she wanted to break it.

She trusted me enough to believe I could help.

We sat on the phone a still afternoon after work, as the sun fell and night descended. As she spoke, I sat and listened to her sharing her concerns with me. I took notes where needed, but for the most part, I was fully into what she had to say. During the entire process I could hear her desire for things to change, for her to change.

She felt overwhelmed and a bit saddened that if she didn’t nip this in the bud right now, it would be something that would affect her for the rest of her life. It would take away from the positive person she had become over the years, and it would take away from her living the life of fulfillment she wants to.

She was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to enjoy life and see her daughter grow up. If she failed to develop discipline in this area of her life, it would spill over into other areas, and affect the discipline, joy, and happiness she had developed.

When working with someone the approach I typically take is:

  1. I Do an analysis and assessment of their situation to identify what may be holding them back from creating the change they want
  2. I Put together a 30-90 day plan based on the analysis
  3. I stick with and check up everyday while they execute for the first 30 days
  4. After the first 30 days we evaluate, refine, and go another 30

After we did the analysis I took a few days to put together a plan. I then sent the plan to her to review, to ensure she understood what I had put in the plan.

This was the response I got back after she read it: “I have read it and I almost felt like crying”.

…let’s pause for a moment.

If you’re familiar with the four different personality types you know what I mean when I say I’m an owl/green/melancholy. Suffice to say though I feel emotion, I very rarely show emotion.

However, in this case I must admit I got a bit teary eyed…but in a good way.

Even before we began I felt that I was already making a positive impact in her life. I also felt the deep yearning desire that she wanted, even needed to change.

That got me excited!

The best way I could describe how I felt was an overwhelming sense of euphoric fulfillment. I don’t even think that was enough to put into words how I felt, but it came close enough.

What’s even crazier about all of this is I have several other people just like that who I work with and help. It’s not about the things people think about such as money, fame or recognition because no one knows what I do to help these persons. The only place and time I do mention it is every now and then in my blog posts, but it’s usually to use real life examples to illustrate a point I’m trying to make in the post.

It’s just the feeling of joy you get knowing you can help someone be a better person and live a better life. It’s being grateful that you have the answers others need and are searching for, and you’re the one they choose to turn to for help.

That’s the power of doing what your passion and purpose is. It’s doing it day in and day out even if you never make a single dollar for it, or get a single praise. It’s just the euphoria you experience knowing you’re doing what you’re destined to do.

It’s an amazing feeling, and I would encourage you reading this to explore your passion and purpose, to experience your euphoria. But be warned. If you choose this path it will be the most emotionally and mentally trying, challenging and frustrating journey you will embark on. It’s lonely at times.

However, if you can manage to make it through, the feeling of joy you will experience is worth more than the pain of the journey itself.

I can’t wait for the day I can do this on a much larger scale, and impact the lives of many more people. I also can’t wait for the day you share your story with me of how you chose to chase your passion, your purpose, and your destiny.

Follow my journey as I document everything on my Journey 2 Mastery™ as it unfolds.
